Hello world of tripawds. My name is Louise and this is my beautiful cat Becca.
She is a tabby that has recently had her right hind leg amputated after being hit by a car. It has been 9 days since her surgery and its not getting any easier for myself and my husband. In fact this is the reason I am writing this post. To feel like we are not alone in the things we are experiencing. To give you some background information Becca has been on medication since the operation. For the pain she is taking Tramadol three times a day. She is also taking gaberfentin twice a day to help with what the vets thinks might be ghost pains. When suffering these pains she growls and gets very frustrated. We try to keep her calm but sometimes feel we are irritating her by doing so.
We’ve had good days and bad days. All be it Becca is a tabby and is used to having much more freedom that what she currently has, which I think is starting to frustrate her. The vet has recommended she become a house cat considering we live in such an urban area. She is struggling with this idea often staring out the window. She is using her litter tray very well for number 1 however when it comes to number 2 she feels the need to to go outside, sitting by the front door a little anxiously. She goes in her litter tray eventually but this is after she has stressed herself out a little. She is yet to have her stitches out and is still wearing a cone. Meaning she can’t clean herself properly. Another thing which seems to be frustrating her. A couple of days ago we were taking her cone off to allow her a little time to clean (all whist watching her like a hawk) however every time she ended up going after her stitches. The process seemed more stress than it was worth for all three of us so it has remained firmly on now for a couple of days. Hopefully when we next go to the vets she will be allowed her stitches out and being cone free might cheer her up a little. Once her stitches are out we may try her with a harness and take her in the garden for some fresh air.
She has been very blue at points, not really moving but not going to sleep. At points very lively wishing to play and doing her cute routine. But we are thank full that she continues to have an appetite so hopefully this is a sign she’s not in a depression. So as I said, were very up and down at the moment. If anyone has any advice they can give me or simply wants to follow Beccas story I will try to post updates every few days.
Thank you for reading and I will leave you with a few pictures of this very pretty tabby.
